As the Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration Dan Morehead attended the official opening of the Old Courts, Kidderminster. The Old Courts received funding from the former Conservative Governments Levelling Up funding via the Future High Streets Fund.
It was an absolute privilege to speak this evening at the launch event to celebrate the opening of the Old Court (Former Magistrates Court. This is a truly momentous occasion for Kidderminster—a day that marks not only the revival of a historic building, but also the beginning of a new chapter for our town and the completion of the first major regeneration project.
First and foremost, the restoration of this building is about creating jobs—both in the short-term during the construction phase, and in the long-term through the businesses and opportunities that will take root here. The new spaces being created will attract entrepreneurs, creative business, and service providers, all of whom will bring vitality and economic growth to the area. This is the kind of investment that brings real, tangible benefits to the people of Kidderminster.
But beyond that, this project is also a key part of a larger network of town centre development schemes. It links directly to other ongoing regeneration efforts that are creating a more dynamic, connected, and accessible town centre. The improvements happening across Kidderminster—whether it's new public spaces, or other redevelopment projects—are all part of a vision to create a connected town centre that is not only functional but thriving. This building, in its renewed form, will play a central role in that vision.
