The evening of 31st January, the official opening of the Old Court took place. The investment for this derelict site was funded by the last Conservative Government through the Future High Streets Fund. Marcus as the Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said:
I was delighted to be at the opening of The Old Court, formerly the Magistrates Court and indoor market in Worcester Street, Kidderminster. This has been a rundown empty building owned by WFDC of which we were unable to attract funding from the private sector.
I was delighted in the spring of 2019 as Leader of WFDC to sign off an initial bid to the then Conservative government to secure funding from their Future High Streets Fund. We were successful in securing £20.5 million. This is capital money ring fenced for capital projects to regenerate town centres. It cannot be spent on day to day council services. Part of the money is allocated to the urban park to regenerate the other and of Worcester Street. Thanks to this money and our support from our MP this has transformed this redundant grade II listed building into fantastic office and venue space and I was equally delighted at being at the grand opening as Leader together with our partners from WCC, KTC, the LEP and Kidderminster BID and local business owners.
This is just the first of many regeneration projects we are undertaking to rejuvenate Kidderminster. Much more to come but this project has taken 6 years deliver and demonstrates these major projects do take time.
