Conservative Group Oppose Car Park Charges Increases

The Conservative Group on WFDC oppose the decision taken by the Leader of the Council who leads the Health Concern, Green, Independent and Labour Progressive Alliance in their inflation busting price increases.

Cllr. Marcus Hart, Leader of the Conservative Group says, “At a time when our high streets and small businesses are really suffering, now is not the time to increase car park charges by such an extortionate amount. Season tickets are going to be increased by a staggering 50% from £400 to £600 for an annual pass and an OAP’s pass from £175 to £200, an increase of nearly 15%. Pay and display charges are going up by 10%. Whilst we acknowledge charges need to keep pace with inflation, increases of 5% are one thing, 50% are another. We also feel that there should be a greater element of free car parking within our 3 towns. The Progressive Alliance sadly removed this some time ago.”

As this is a an executive function, the decision cannot be reversed by all elected members at Full Council.
